4 Year Olds
Developmentally
The four year olds should be “kindergarten ready”
by the end of the year. The skills needed to migrate
into a larger school and new environment
should be in place. We focus on:
- Following multi-step directions
- Sitting quietly and participating appropriately
in a 15-20 minute circle
- Playing in large groups
- Making friends and being a friend
- Transitioning smoothly from one activity to the
next
- Feeling comfortable with the
daily routine
Academically
In the fours, we work on improving and increasing
the foundational learning skills. We strive to keep
activities fun, creative and interesting. Skills we
work on include:
- Recognizing, learning the sound, and writing
the letters of the Alphabet
- Counting to 30
- Recognizing patterns
- Learning the days of the week, months, and
seasons
- Developing small motor skills with proper grip
of a pencil and proper use of scissors
- Reading and writing their name
